Mum's Reading Room

Item # PXGA2 Like most reading rooms, entertainment doesn't come from books alone. Amidst the chrysanthemums on this tile figurine is a cheeky bug, top left, making faces at a preying mantis. An elderly grasshopper with pipe and glasses is engrossed in a book, seemingly oblivious to the antics above him.

Sharazad

Item # TJDLLECASharazade nestles down inside one of Wizard Fezziwig's magic slippers. She joined him shortly before his ascendancy to the position of Court Magician, although, it is true, his powers have seen better days. In short, he has become somewhat absent-minded. This morning has been a long and frustrating one, as Fezziwig came down the worn stone steps of the workshop to light the furnace and give the cauldron a wake-up stir, and then went on to curse as he wandered the icy flagstones searching for his other magical slipper. "Have you seen it, Sharazade? No, of course not ..." And so on, muttering to himself. Sharazade purrs gently to herself, sitting in plain view near the alchemy table. On the interior, an old lamp is marked with a tag indicating that it works as good as new.

Divine

In England, discreet packaging is typically a blue box, hence its inclusion in naming this piece! Caught in a tough position, this chicken appears to be simply ready for the moment to be over. One wonders if the poor little hen even had a chance to plead for pethidine, or elect to go Caesarean. Of course, would things have gone easier had she kept up on those pelvic floor exercises? Pete says, "This is for all the mums out there! And the interior of this box shows the dates when Andrea 'laid' our two children." Pete's mouse appears on the eggshell's interior, in this signed and numbered piece.

Sun Catcher

Item # PXNB1 At bottom left on this tile figurine is a cherub wearing dark shades, aiming his catapult at one of the storks. The UFO at top right has the work "Foo" inscribed on its underside. This is short for "Foo Fighters," enigmatic flying objects sighted during World War II. Rufus reappears, this time holding on for dear life atop the UFO.

Sun Worshipper

Item # PXGA1 Sunflowers dominate this tile figurine, but look closely at it's inhabitants. Lord Byron clings to a tendril of ivy snaking up the left side, while a honeybee visits the large sunflower. Resting on a leaf is a sunbathing celebrity girlybug, clad in a bikini. Notice her tanning lotion and designer handbag, as well as the peeping paparazzi bug staring from behind the small flower, eyes magnified by binoculars.

Two Blind Mice

Item # PXGE1 Two shortsighted mice are the central character's of this tile figurine. The leading mouse sports an eye patch and swag bag while the other wears a monocle and smokes a pipe. As they busily collect holiday berries, a little bug above them holds on for dear life to a sprig of holly. His friend peers from the other petals of the Christmas rose off to the left, scared by his mate's predicament. Another bug hides in ivy tendrils at top right, wearing hat and scarf, because it's cold.
